Cardiff celebrates 60 years as a Capital City. Wales Online tells the story of the day it was announced, featuring testimonials and a quote from Save the Coal Exchange.
“Back in 1955, the news was announced at the entrance of City Hall, and was telephoned across to the Coal Exchange in Butetown. This was followed by an almighty cheer from the Trading Hall,” said Lisa Power, director of Save the Coal Exchange campaign.
“It was incredibly important to the business community. Cardiff was already the business capital of Wales and the Coal Exchange was the symbol of business in Cardiff.”
